Spanish government spokesperson Pilar Alegria announced that the cabinet has made a significant decision to recognize a Palestinian state. This move, she stated, aims to support the peace process between Israelis and Palestinians.

The Spanish Prime Minister described this decision as "a matter of historical justice." He emphasized that peace can only be achieved through the establishment of a Palestinian state that coexists with Israel.

"The Palestinian state must be viable, with the West Bank and Gaza connected by a corridor, and East Jerusalem as its capital," he added.

Madrid will uphold the pre-1967 borders unless any changes are mutually agreed upon by both parties. These territories, including the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip, were occupied by Israel during the 1967 Arab-Israeli War.
