Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) were "totally outplayed" by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL 2024 final, according to their captain Pat Cummins. The eight-wicket defeat, finished with 57 balls to spare, was largely due to Mitchell Starc's stunning new-ball spell. Starc's exceptional swing bowling dismissed key batsmen Abhishek Sharma and Rahul Tripathi early on.

"I thought they bowled fantastically," Cummins remarked during the post-match presentation. "Unfortunately, my old mate Starcy turned it on again. We were totally outplayed tonight."

SRH never recovered from Starc's early breakthroughs and were eventually bowled out for 113. Their longest partnership, for the ninth wicket, lasted just 22 balls. This left them unable to either stabilize or launch a late-innings assault. "It was a tricky wicket," Cummins noted. "I think if we had reached 160, we would have been competitive. It didn't feel like a 200-plus wicket, but we fell well short. A few extra runs might have given us a chance."

Cummins continued, "You hope to get a few boundaries early on to get into the game, but they bowled fantastically well and gave us nothing to work with. Similar to Qualifier 1 last week in Ahmedabad. Full credit to them."

Despite the final setback, SRH's batting lineup showcased aggressive play throughout the season. Openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head were crucial in making this IPL season high-scoring. The duo, along with the team, set multiple records, demonstrating a fearless approach that pleased Cummins.

"The style that the guys played, especially with the bat, requires a lot of skill," Cummins said. "Not only to get 250, but to do it three times. It takes bravery to play like that in high-pressure situations like the IPL. They took the game on, and it was a lot of fun. The fans seemed to enjoy it back in Hyderabad. Overall, it was a great season."
