Kolkata: Mamata Banerjee has expressed strong disapproval over the Calcutta High Court's decision to abolish OBC reservations. Addressing a public meeting in the Dumdum Lok Sabha constituency, she made it clear that she vehemently opposes this verdict. She warned that such a decision would lead to constitutional breakdown and accused the BJP of using agencies to carry out their agenda.

Accusations Against BJP

Mamata voiced her frustration, stating she overheard a judge passing a controversial order, which even the Prime Minister supported, indicating a plan to snatch reservations from minority tribal communities. She argued that such actions are impossible and would cause constitutional disruption. She accused the BJP of misusing agencies to execute their plans.

Defiance Against the Court Order

She declared, "Today, they passed an order, but I do not accept it. Just like when 26,000 people lost their jobs because of the BJP, I refused to accept it. Similarly, I reject today’s order. We will not follow BJP's directives. OBC reservations will continue. Imagine their audacity; this is a disgraceful chapter in our country." Mamata emphasized that the OBC reservation was not implemented by her government but was introduced by Upen Biswas after a thorough survey. She highlighted that previous challenges to this reservation yielded no results.

Political Motivations Behind the Order

Mamata questioned why BJP does not discuss policies in states ruled by them. She asserted that the OBC reservation was passed by the Cabinet and Assembly and even upheld by the court. She accused the BJP of manipulating such issues for electoral gains, aiming to distract from their corruption. She condemned their earlier conspiracies, including attempts to incite communal riots and manipulate minority reservations.

High Court's Decision on OBC Certificates

The Calcutta High Court has invalidated the OBC list created in Bengal after 2010. The court ordered that no new certificates would be issued based on this list. However, the court clarified that jobs obtained under this list would not be affected, ensuring job security for those employed. The decision was made by a bench comprising Justice Tapobrata Chakraborty and Justice Rajasekhar Mantha.
