King Salman’s Health Update: Lung Infection and Treatment

King Salman bin Abdul Aziz of Saudi Arabia, aged 88, is currently battling a lung infection. Alongside this, he is experiencing joint pain and fever. His medical team has decided to treat him with antibiotics. This news was reported by the local media on Monday morning.

The Saudi government press agency confirmed that King Salman underwent a medical examination at the Royal Clinic in Al Salam Palace, located in the port city of Jeddah by the Red Sea. This incident marks the second time within a month that King Salman’s health has taken a sudden turn for the worse. The examination revealed a lung infection, prompting the medical team to prescribe antibiotics to combat the infection.

Continued Treatment and Health Concerns

Saudi media sources reported that Sunday’s tests confirmed an infection in the King’s lungs. Doctors plan to continue antibiotic treatment until the inflammation subsides. King Salman has been reigning since 2015. However, his 38-year-old son, Mohammed bin Salman, was appointed Crown Prince in 2017 and has been acting as the de facto ruler. Saudi Arabia, a major global crude oil exporter, has consistently worked to quell any speculation regarding King Salman’s health over the years.

King Salman's Medical History and Roles

The health of King Salman is typically kept under wraps. However, in April, the Royal Court disclosed that he was admitted to King Faisal Specialist Hospital for routine examinations. Prior to this, he was hospitalized in May 2022 for a colonoscopy. In 2020, he underwent surgery to remove his gall bladder and was again hospitalized in March 2022. Besides his role as King, Salman has had a long tenure as the Governor of Riyadh and has served as the Minister of Defense for several decades.

King Salman’s recent health issues and ongoing treatment continue to be closely monitored, given his critical role in the governance of Saudi Arabia.
