FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Despite Lionel Messi being kept off the scoresheet for the second consecutive match, Inter Miami secured a 1-0 victory over DC United on Saturday night, extending their unbeaten streak.

Lionel Messi may not have scored, but Inter Miami's unbeaten run continued thanks to Leo Campana's heroics. Campana, who came on as a substitute, scored four minutes into second-half stoppage time. Receiving a pass from Sergio Busquets on the right wing, Campana fired a shot that found the back of the net, securing the win for Miami.

This victory boosts Eastern Conference leaders Miami to a record of 9-2-4, accumulating 31 points. On the other hand, DC United fell to 4-5-5 with 17 points. Miami has been on a roll, going 6-0-3 since their 4-0 loss to the New York Red Bulls on March 23.

Messi returned to the lineup after sitting out Wednesday’s match against Orlando due to knee soreness. Before Saturday, Messi had consistently contributed to the team's success, scoring or assisting in five consecutive matches until their 3-2 win against Montreal on May 11. He entered Saturday’s game with a league-leading 12 assists.

Throughout the match, Messi was tightly marked by DC United’s defenders. His best chance came in the 71st minute when he found a slight opening, but his shot from 22 yards out went over the crossbar.

Goalkeeper Drake Callender was crucial in maintaining Miami’s clean sheet, making a pivotal save in the 86th minute against a shot from DC United’s Jacob Murrell.

The match’s start was delayed by 25 minutes due to thunderstorms at Chase Stadium, which affected pregame warm-ups. The rain intensified after kickoff but subsided by the 30th minute.

Messi had two free kicks blocked by United’s defensive wall in the 21st and 39th minutes, preventing him from adding to his assist tally.

Looking ahead, both teams will continue their league schedules next Saturday. Inter Miami will visit Vancouver, while DC United will host Chicago.
