New Delhi: Delhi experienced the highest temperature in its history, with Mungeshpur weather station recording a scorching 52.3 degrees Celsius on Wednesday at 2:30 PM. Not only the national capital but several other northern Indian states also saw temperatures soar above 50 degrees Celsius.

In Rajasthan, Phalodi recorded a temperature of 51 degrees Celsius, while Sirsa in Haryana registered 50.3 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, due to the cool winds coming from the Arabian Sea, temperatures in southern Rajasthan's districts of Barmer, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Sirohi, and Jalore dropped by up to four degrees Celsius. This suggests a decline in the heatwave gripping northwest India. The arrival of moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal is expected to gradually lower temperatures in Uttar Pradesh starting Thursday.

The rise in temperature has also led to an unprecedented increase in Delhi's electricity consumption, reaching an all-time high. This surge is primarily due to the extensive use of air conditioners by residents. According to officials from the electricity department, Delhi's power consumption has hit a record 8,302 megawatts.
