At his retirement ceremony, Chitta Ranjan Das, a judge of the Calcutta High Court, revealed a significant detail about his life. He shared that he had been a worker for the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Despite being away from the organization for 37 years due to his judicial responsibilities, Justice Das expressed his ongoing connection and gratitude towards the RSS.

Justice Das officially retired on Monday. During the farewell event attended by his fellow judges and members of the bar, he spoke candidly about his past. He stated that if the RSS ever needed his assistance in the future and he was able to help, he would certainly rejoin the organization. He emphasized, "I have been an RSS worker."

He acknowledged that not everyone would appreciate his disclosure, but he felt it was important to be honest about his affiliation with the National Volunteer Association (RSS). He reminisced about his childhood involvement with the RSS and how it shaped his values of courage, honesty, commitment, and patriotism.

Justice Das also clarified that he maintained a professional distance from the RSS for 37 years to ensure that his career advancement was based solely on his merit and principles, not his affiliation. He stated, "I never used the organization's membership to further my career as it is against my principles."

Furthermore, Justice Das reiterated his belief in equality and impartiality, emphasizing that everyone is equal in his eyes. He made a poignant statement about the nature of justice, saying, "The law can be bent to do justice, but justice cannot be done according to the law." This highlights his commitment to fairness and integrity throughout his career.

In summary, Justice Das's retirement speech was a heartfelt acknowledgment of his roots and the values instilled in him by the RSS, while also reinforcing his dedication to impartial justice and professional integrity.
